After attending the Business Symposium I have focused a lot of my attention in ISM towards networking and scheduling a research interview.
It was a little overwhelming to see the amount of work I need to complete in order to meet my deadlines and find a research interview. However, after working hard in class today and planning to use my time wisely I believe I can reach this goal.
My goal this week is to contact 25-30 professionals in Sports Medicine, and hopefully schedule two research interviews before this Friday. I have created a professional and polite template I use when trying to connect with professionals on LinkedIn. I have also created my email template for requesting to schedule a research interview, and I have drafted my cold call script.
This is definitely not an easy goal but it is attainable. I am most nervous about having to cold call people, because it feels like there are higher stakes. Contacting them through email allows me to review my message and perfect it before sending it, however on the phone that isn't possible. However, in order to schedule a research interview and meet my goal this week I might have to cold call professionals.
Another challenge I have run into was finding professionals not included on the "Don't Solicit" list. Many hospitals including Baylor Scott and White and Scottish Rite Sports Medicine are included on this list. I am trying to contact professionals via LinkedIn and email instead of calling those locations, however it has added another challenge I have had to battle through.
Additionally, I am in the process of completing my Original Work Proposal. I am excited to be able to compile a project to showcase all my work and research throughout the first semester of ISM. I do not know exactly what I want to make my project about however it is something I am also focusing on this week in ISM.
Overall, it is a busy week in the Independent Study Mentorship Program and I have a lot of important things I am aiming to accomplish.
