Preparing For My Research Speech

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

This past weekend I started to prepare and practice for my research speech on Friday. There is a lot of important information I want to include like physical injuries, psychological impact, my interviews, and my original work. However, I wanted to focus on having a powerful introduction.

I want to start my speech with a big impact that makes the audience really understand how vital sports medicine is. In order to accomplish this I chose three famous or well known athletes and explained how their injuries affected them and their career.

I chose Klay Thompson and emphasized how he tore his entire ACL in the NBA Game 6 Finals in 2019, and could not play the sport he loved for 491 days.

I chose Tom Brady who also tore his ACL at the first game of the 2008 NFL season and was out the entire season.

I also chose Cindy Parlow Cone who won the Championships in female soccer but due to multiple concussions she ended her career for her safety.

I used a lot of numbers and statistics because I really wanted to have a big impact and help my audience realize how important it is to recognize the difficulties of being injured. Hopefully, this will help me lead into my research about the common injuries and the psychological impact. Overall, I have worked on preparing a strong research speech that I want to really resonate with my audience. I want the speech to be like a story that progresses through and displays my research by almost showing the journey. This is because I don't want my presentation to be too technical or boring. Overall, I think this is a really good plan for what I want to cover in my introduction and to share the significance.
