This week I had the wonderful opportunity of attending my second mentor meeting. It was really fun, and I really enjoy these meetings because there are so many different types of injuries to see. I got to see Dr. Robertson give an injection, diagnose a patient with a hip injury and talk to a patient about what surgery would look like. However, one of the coolest things was seeing Dr. Robertson test a patient to see if they tore their ACL. This is because I had researched about the different ACL diagnostic tests and watched videos for my original work. However, it was really cool to see something I had researched about in person and how its being implemented in person in the real world.
However, during this meeting Dr. Robertson talked to a teenager about going on his website and reading to find more information about his injury. I knew about his website, but I did not know he had a section used as a resource for his patients to educate them about their injury. That is what I had originally intended my final project to be, because I thought it would be a useful tool for him to use. However, he already had one. This set me back slightly in my plan for my final project. However, I was able to quickly pivot and I decided to create 7 pamphlets about the 7 most common injuries he sees in teenage athletes. It would still be a resource for the patients to use after getting injured, and something helpful for Dr. Robertson. I am also able to still use some of my research from earlier on. Overall, it was just a minor setback, and I am actually kind of excited to create these pamphlets.
